In Word 2003, you can type text in a different font by clicking the font name pull-down in the Formatting toolbar. When you click this pull-down, a list of available fonts on your system is displayed, and, for convenience, each font name is listed in different typefaces so you can visually see the difference between Times New Roman or Verdana text.
However, on some older computers, or on computers with hundreds of fonts installed, it may take an extra few seconds or so to fully render this list. If that is the case, you can display the font list using just the standard font to speed up the pull-down.
1. Click "Tools" - "Customize".
2. When the "Customize" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, choose "Options".
3. Uncheck "List font names in their font".
4. Click "Close" to close the dialog box.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then,
return to Microsoft Word 2003 Fonts - Speed Up Font Display Pull-Down.
