Normally, in Microsoft Word 2003, when you select a word and keep selecting other surrounding words, Word 2003 will automatically select the entire surrounding words. It expects that if you select one word, you want to select surrounding whole words, but what if you only want to select a few characters from a surrounding word? This can be rather difficult unless you change the text selection settings:
1. Choose "Tools" then "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Edit" tab.
3. Uncheck "When selecting, automatically select entire word".
4. Press "OK" to close the dialog box.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then,
return to Microsoft Word 2003 Text Selecting and Moving - Finer Text Selection.
