Microsoft Word 2003 Spelling and Grammar

Summary: Configure whether Microsoft Word 2003 should check the spelling of Internet addresses.

By default, when Microsoft Word 2003 spell checks a document, it ignores known Internet and file addresses. It does so because such addresses often contain proper names that are not found in Word 2003's dictionary.

Some people rarely enter Internet and file addresses in Microsoft Word documents, thus when they do enter such an address, they may wish Microsoft Word to check and see if it matches up with a previously entered address.

For example, if you often enter the address http://www.microsoft.com/ in your Microsoft Word documents, you may wish Word to not ignore this address. It will be underlined in red in your document, and then you can right-click the word and select "Add to Dictionary". This way, if you later type in the address but mistakenly key in http://www.microdoft.com, Word will note this does not match anything currently in the dictionary by underlining the address in red.

To toggle Microsoft Word spell checking Internet and file addresses:

1. Select "Tools"- "Options".

2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, select the "Spelling & Grammar" tab.

3. Check or uncheck "Ignore Internet and file addresses" as desired.

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
