Normally when you use Microsoft Word 2000, Word will save a copy of your document every 10 minutes. Supposedly, if Word 2000 crashes, when you next load Word 2000 it will open a copy of this recovered document. This is a good feature for those
who forget to save files constantly ... hint ... hint ... Ten minutes, however, may be too long to wait. If you are working on a large document, a lot of typing can occur in ten minutes. Thus, you may want to lower the setting to AutoRecover every 5 minutes or so.
To do this, click the "Tools" menu then "Options". On the multi-tabbed dialog box that follows, select the "Save" tab. Make sure "Save AutoRecover info every" is checked, and enter in how many minutes you want to wait between background AutoRecover saves. When done, press "OK" to close the dialog box.
Note that you should not set this number too low. AutoRecover saves take a couple of seconds, and while it occurs, you can not edit your document.
