Finished With Your 2,000 Word Book Report? And Other Counting Features

UMMARY: Quickly display the number of pages, words, characters, paragraphs, and lines in your Word 2010 document.

For various reasons you might need to know how many words or paragraphs are in your current Microsoft Word 2010 document (school report or essay being a couple).

While the word and page counts may appear in the status bar, here are two ways to get the more detailed information:

A. Click the “Review” tab in the Ribbon, then click the “Word Count” button in the “Proofing” group.

Displaying the word, paragraph, line, etc. count in Word 2010

B. Click the word count section (“Words:”) in the Word 2010 status bar.

Note that by selecting a block of text before performing one of the above two actions, Word 2010 will display detailed information about only the selected text, not the whole document.

Also note that the “Word Count” dialog box by default counts words inside textboxes, footnotes, and endnotes. This may not be desirable, so be sure to uncheck the box to view what many people would consider a more accurate word count.
