How do I Speed up the Font Display Pulldown?

Summary: A Microsoft Word 2000 performance tweak regarding the fonts.

Normally, when you select a font with the font display pulldown, Microsoft Word 2000 shows examples of the fonts in the pulldown menu. While this can prove to be extremely convenient if you’re just not sure of the right font to use, this feature does take extra processing time. If you change fonts frequently and find this display too slow, there’s a way to have Word stop this.

Click on the “Tools” menu and choose “Customize”. On the multi-tabbed dialog box that follows, select the “Options” tab. Uncheck “List font names in their font” under “Other” and press “Close”.

Microsoft Word 2000 – How Can I Show All Menu Items?

Office 2000 introduces a different type of menu. In it, only certain items, supposedly the most utilized ones, are visible to you when going through the menus. Other menu items require clicking on a down arrow at the bottom of each menu. The shown menu items are supposedly the most recently used commands, but I find the hiding of other options stifling. I want all of my menu options available all the time. And here’s how to get that functionality back with Word.

First, choose the “Tools” menu and select “Customize”. On the multi-tabbed dialog box that follows, select the “Options” tab. Uncheck “Menus show recently used commands first” and then click the “Close” button.

Now, ALL of your menu options are available!

Short on paper? You can have Microsoft Word 2000 print 2, 4, or more pages of your document on one sheet of paper. To try this trick, choose the “File” menu and select “Print”.
