Add Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scroll Lock Indicators

SUMMARY: See at a glance whether or not the Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock buttons have been pressed via indicators on the Excel 2010 Status Bar.

By default, Microsoft Excel 2010 displays an indicator in the status bar whenever the Scroll Lock key has been pressed. This is useful as when Scroll Lock is selected, pressing cursor keys do not move the cell selection, instead scrolling through the current worksheet.

However, keyboards normally have two other locks available – Caps Lock and Num Lock. Unless you have software that automatically displays this information in the Windows taskbar or other location, might it be useful to see onscreen whether one or all of these locks are active? Luckily making this change is easy:

1. Right-click an empty area of the Excel 2010 Status Bar.

2. Underneath the pop-up menu “Customize Status Bar”, check or uncheck “Caps Lock”, “Num Lock”, and / or “Scroll Lock” as desired.
